Emergency care policy
How emergency care works at Nebraska Equine
We're grateful for the trust of our clients. As our community and service area grow, these guidelines help us reach every horse in trouble as quickly as we can.
Emergency coverage guidelines
- Current clients first
Emergency care goes first to clients who rely on us for routine care like vaccines, dentistry and wellness visits.
- Travel distance matters
If you're more than 30 minutes from the clinic, we may ask you to haul your horse in for faster, more effective treatment.
- Multiple emergencies
When several emergencies happen at once, we triage cases by urgency and client status.
- Equine-only practice
We treat horses, donkeys and mules only.
- Help for non-clients
We'll do our best to help, but in most cases we'll ask you to haul your animal to the clinic.
- Horses that can't be moved
If your horse can't travel safely, we'll work with you by phone to decide the best next step.
Be prepared
- Call early. Calling during business hours often means a faster response.
- Have a hauling plan. Make sure you have a trailer, or know someone who can haul your horse in an emergency.
- Boarding? Know the policy. Make sure your barn has an emergency hauling plan.
- Stay stocked. Keep any emergency medications your veterinarian has prescribed on hand.
- Keep us updated. Make sure your contact details and payment information are current in our system.
- Trust our team's recommendations. For your horse's safety, we may recommend hauling to the clinic, even in urgent cases.
A final note. A trusted relationship with your veterinarian is the best way to make sure your horse gets timely, expert care when it matters most. Thank you for choosing Nebraska Equine. We're here when you need us.
