Prescription policy

We follow Nebraska's veterinary-client-patient relationship (VCPR) law. We need a valid, current VCPR before we can prescribe any medication or treatment for your horse. A VCPR exists when:

  • The veterinarian has taken responsibility for your horse's care, including medical judgments based on an exam or consultation.
  • You have agreed to follow the veterinarian's recommendations for care and treatment.
  • The veterinarian has examined or consulted on your horse in person and set a treatment plan.

The relationship has to stay current for ongoing prescriptions and refills. If we haven't seen your horse recently, or its health has changed, we may need a follow-up exam before we refill a medication, to make sure it's still safe and still working.

We don't prescribe for horses we haven't examined. Questions? Call or text 402.408.6777.
